Welcome to my blog!<\/span><\/p>\n

This is a blog about liberal Protestant Christianity in Canada in the third millennium.<\/span><\/p>\n

You’ve probably never heard of a branch of Christianity called “Concinnate Christianity.” It’s a name I used for a few years on a Progressive Christian message board to describe a modern church based on Jesus’ teachings about love, forgiveness, healing, freedom, and humbleness.<\/span><\/p>\n

“You do well if you really fulfill the royal law according to scripture, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself'” (James 2:8). The spiritual pathway of Concinnate Christianity isn’t straight and narrow, but instead winds through life with moments of deep connection to your inner self and God. The focus is on healing and redemption rather than sin and salvation. I often wander through this Toronto park, James Gardens, because its harmonious blend of natural features helps restore me. My Random House dictionary defines “concinnate” in this way: Trans. verb<\/em>\u00a0“to arrange or blend together skilfully, as parts or elements; put together in a harmonious, precisely appropriate, or elegant manner.”<\/span><\/p>\n

There’s also a noun (“concinnity”) and an adjective (“concinnous”), but I don’t really like the sound of “Concinnous Christianity,” so in the time-honoured tradition of the English language, I’m using the verb as a new form of the adjective.<\/span><\/p>\n

I can’t promise I’ll always be elegant in my posts, but I’m going to try hard to be clear, precise, and balanced. If I fall short of this goal, you can let me know.<\/span><\/p>\n
